Graphic Designer/Developer

Location: Ketchum, ID

Department: Graphic Design

Type: Full Time

Min. Experience: Mid Level

Wanted: a gifted graphic designer/developer to join our marketing team. This is a serious, fast-paced, career-track position at a rapidly growing company. The challenges will be great, but so are the rewards. To be considered you MUST be a details person, highly organized, a fast learner and able to work independently. We are looking for something very specific, and unless you live for details and can take a task and run with it, you probably aren’t it. Coffee is for closers, and you absolutely must be a closer to be considered.

After 15 years of outsourcing our illustration work, we are building up our in-house talent stable with exceptional people. What we’re seeking is consistent messaging brand-wide and across all channels. It’s one of many reasons you must hold details near and dear to your heart to be successful in this role.

A Bachelor's degree is required and B2C marketing/e-commerce experience is a plus. We are open to a brilliant rookie or a seasoned veteran, but you will primarily be judged by your portfolio.

The ideal candidate will have at least intermediate web-development experience. Be ready to hit the ground running - we work at a very fast pace and you will be expected to keep up. After a trial period of several projects, the successful candidate will transition to full-time work with our standard benefits package.

You will preferably have, or will need to quickly learn, the following general skills to be successful in our organization:

  • Technical skills: be generally tech-savvy; adept at Outlook, Google mail, calendar, docs; must know and use Skype; intermediate HTML coding (be able to read/understand and edit, but coding from scratch is not required); experience with Google Analytics a big plus
  • Communication skills: quick and accurate communication with a high email volume; understand basics of social media
  • Logic skills: apply blanket rules to multiple situations to determine your course of action; be able to work independently
  • Great Eye: understand visual balance; how colors come together; notice elements that are out of place; able to take a decent photo, etc.
  • Visual creativity and consistency is a requirement.  If you are good with words as well, even better.

Listed in order of importance, you need to have these role-specific skills:

  • Design for web (including image optimization)
  • Photo manipulation
  • Design for print (including magazine advertising)
  • Vector artwork
  • Flash Animation (including basic actionscript, experience designing banner ads.  We still use Flash and then convert to HTML5 for many things.)
  • Design for apparel (woven tags, etc. not just designs for screen-printed t-shirts!)
  • 3D rendering
  • It would be ideal if you can design/build sophisticated web pages using CSS, HTML, MySQL, jscript, HTML5, etc. but if your other skills are good enough this may not be an absolute requirement. In any case, you MUST have a working knowledge of design and development for web... we are primarily an online retailer.

Programs Required:

  • Creative Suite 5+, preferably 6/Cloud: Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash (mostly animation & some actionscript... or skip the Flash step and be great at HTML5), Dreamweaver or other web editor, InDesign

Responsibilities Include:

  • Creating website sliders, landing pages, retargeting ads, and additional assets for sales, product launches and more.
  • Designing for email marketing and maintaining the SCOTTeVEST newsletter.
  • Updating assets and ensuring SCOTTeVEST collateral and branding is consistent and current.
  • Designing package inserts, product hang tags, brochures, and other print materials.
  • Creating assets for social media.
  • Prioritizing responsibilities and communicating effectively in order to maintain an efficient work flow and insure goals are met.
  • Working to further the SCOTTeVEST brand.
  • Being ready and willing to tackle projects as they are thrown at you, creatively and with gumption.
